How the Entertainment Industry in Thailand is Coping with the Pandemic
As the COVID-19 dawned Thailand was deserted as the Thai government closed down all the crowed spaces like nightclubs, bars and other entertainment areas and this brings to shutdown of the nightlife.
It feels terrible to think that even a night before, Bangkok, Thailand was as lively as ever though with limited visitors. With increasing number of cases in Bangkok, this was to happen. To this a pub owner said that they would have anyway closed their businesses to ensure safety even if the government wouldn’t have ordered.
It has happened first time in 20 years due to safety and declining number of visitors. If you don’t already, bars and nightclubs contribute almost more than $5.5 billion/year to the economy. And of all Bangkok is the most famous worldwide for its night time economy.
Besides, other entertainment centres such as theatres, cinemas, spas, cockfighting arenas, massage parlors, horse racing tracks, boxing arenas, and gyms are closed to limit the spread of the virus.
Also, the Thai government has put on hold significant holidays like the traditional New Year celebrated 13th April and 15th April, the Songkran festival to limit mass movement. This is why the 3-day celebration, involving water play had to be cancelled.
As a part of preventive measures, orders were applicable to resorts and restaurants. Having said that, the government has allowed a few businesses to reopen on May 3, which includes golf courses and restaurants. But alcohol sales are banned in restaurants and any team sports like soccer to be avoided.
Considering the present scenario, casinos are engaging customers on online poker and casino games. Gamers are now playing their desirable games online to deal get rid of the boredom. However, on the other hand, according to a recent study those who are playing online casino games for a long time, can be in the verge of developing gambling-related disorders.
Nevertheless, right now it would be too early to state the financial loss entertainment industry would incur due to this pandemic as the total reach, the extension of the pandemic, and preventive measures would determine the economic impact.
